Period Drama- Pride and Predujice

Indicators:

Mr D' Arcy is presented as a of upper social status, through the use of mise-en-scene the lush greenery of his estate shows his wealth and the large area represents the broadness of his influence, and the bright sunlight mirrors his gentle nature and portryas this to the audience, whereas a lower class person would be presented in grey, bleak and unclean environment to represent their social status.

through the use of non diagetic sound and soft and elegent tone of the orchestral music represenst his manner and shows he is of a high social status, he is also presented as upper class through the use of colloquialisms during dialect. The proper way in which he speaks shows that he is upper class.

The close up Shots of the chracter Mr. D'Arcy focus the attention of the audience onto him then through the use of low angle shots he is made to look powerful which would represent his power over others as an upper class man.

The lush and sunny environment is often edited in after mr. D'Arcy as a refelction of his character. -

Use of Diagetic, Non-Diagetic and Pleanastic Sound

Episode One series One- As part of the first episode the characters are intoduced to the viewer for the first time during the opening scene the use of Pleanastic non didagetic sound where a music beat is slowly rises in volume as the charcters are introduced to create suspense and set the scene. The viewer can see they are in detention centre and the use of loud urban music represents the reblious sterotype of teenagers. The use of fast paced non diagetic sound during a aggressive confontation hieghtens the impact of the scene and reprsents the negative emotions of the characters.
The sudden crash of a car followed by the ringing car alarm used diagetic and pleanastic sound to shock the viewer and start the action, this is followed by complete silence although the action still continues the silence is used in this chaotic scene to represent the confused and scared emotions of teh characters whilst allwoing the audience to focus on the sudden and unexplained action on screen.

- The collected group of teenagers suggests promiscuity, the sexual nature of the cover suggests a stereotypical view of teenagers. This is also used in order to draw in the main audience (teenagers) if they can relate to or desire this life style.

- The framing contains close ups of the teens faces, who look to be tired and distant suggesting drug usage and thus wild youths.

-The teen with virgin written across his face is wearing glasses and normal convention for 'uncool' people.

Her facial expression is sombre and suggests that she is feeling negatuve emotions, the fact that she is in her kitchen but dirty and on a bed of flowers may be suggesting that life as a housewife is not fulfilling, as I think this image plays on the saying 'life is not a bed of roses'. Or it could impy that she has lost touch with nature or the world around her as she is on a bad of flowers inside a darkened kitchen. Where the light is streaming in from outside suggests that outside is a better plave.
